What Mystery are You Reading?
I am starting with The Godwulf Manuscript, by Robert B. Parker. The Library has a Mystery Book Club that meets the second Wednesday of each month. This month we are reading the first book in Robert B. Parker's Spenser series.
Spenser, the main character, is a dective who gets hired by a Boston university when their rare manuscript is stolen. He is put on the trail of some radical students, and soon finds himself at the scene of a murder. A young college girl is charged with the murder of her boyfriend, but Spenser believes she is innocent. Now Spenser has a missing manuscript and a murder on his hands.

"The Godwulf Manuscript" is very much a detective story that revolves around a man. I am enjoying the book, but if I was a man I might enjoy it more. I also have to admit I am a person who likes history, just not recent history. So the fact that this book was written and set in the early 1970's, before I was born, detracts from my enjoyment of the book. Since I do enjoy history, I do find the parts about the manuscript very interesting. I also appreciate that the book is an easy read.
I finished "The Godwulf Manuscript" last night. I would recommend this book to more men than women.
At home I found 2 mysteries that I got cheap one time and thought I would read. Since I never did get around to reading them, I think now would be a good time. I have decided on Susanna Gregory's "An Unholy Alliance," it is a Matthew Bartholomew Mystery. I don't think I have ever read a book by Susanna Gregory before today.
According to the back of the book...The story is set in 1350, at Cambridge. The town has been hit by the black death, and while many individuals have died from disease, three harlots are found with their throats slit. A friar dies rifling a strongbox filled with college chronicles, plus the sick vice chancellor and all of his furnishings have disappeared. Now Matthew Bartholomew, a master of medicine, has been called to look into the disappearance of the vice chancellor.
I think this book sounds like it might be interesting.
Happy Reading!!
What mystery are you reading???
I started "An Unholy Alliance," but I have gotten side tracked by a couple of romance novels. I think the mystery would be good, but I seem to be in the mood to read romances.
